TOPIC: CLASSIFICATION OF HADITH BASED ON ACCEPTANCE AND REJECTION

A) ACCEPTED (MAQBUL)
  • SAHIH (AUTHENTIC)
  • HASAN (AGREEABLE)
B) REJECTED (MARDUD)
  • DHOIF (WEAK)
  • MAWDU' (FORGED)

  1. For Hadith of the Prophet to be considered authentic, it must fullfill five criteria. List down these criteria.
  2. Define Hadith Maqbul and discuss its various categories with examples
  3. What kind of information that Muhaddithun needs to confirm the continuity of Isnad
  4. Explain how it can be Hadith Qudsi determined as authentic Hadith.
  5. A Hadith is acceptable only when the transmitter possess two important qualities and the impact on the gradation of Hadith.
  6. What are the factors that disqualify a person from being reliable in transmitting the Hadith.
  7. Explain 2 types of gaps in the Isnad.
  8. Discuss the concept of Hadith Dhoif, its classification and views of Muhaddithun about its application in Islamic legislation.
  9. Hadith is classified according to the omission in the sanad, into six categories. Define all of them with examples.
  10. What are the factors that disqualify a person from being reliable in transmitting the Hadith.
  11. By using the methodology of al-jarh and ta'dil, hadith scholars have come up with the decision that not all that are referred to as Hadiths are authentic and can be used as sources of Hukm and knowledge. There are hadith which classified as Dhoif due to discontinuity in the sanad. Explain this in detail along with examples and pieces of evidences.
  12. Discuss briefly main factors that are believed to have caused the fabrication of Hadith. Support your answer with examples.

It has been unanimaously accepted by almost all our imams of Hadith for more than 10 centuries that Dhoif hadith is not a 'rejected' hadith. Most of them consider them acceptable in fadail-e-amaal. Here is a quick reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_of_hadith#Historical_method
